Mapping Dysfunction & Compensation

Thursday 22nd October 2026 | 7.30pm UK time | Live via Zoom | £15

What can the shape, angles and alignment of your horse’s body tell you about the way they are functioning?

When we look at a horse, there is an enormous amount of information in front of us. The angle of the shoulder. The position and angle of the pelvis. The relationship between those angles and the spine. The position of the sternum. The alignment of the body. How weight is distributed. And, ultimately, how all of this translates into movement.

But looking at each of these things individually only tells us part of the story.

In Mapping Dysfunction & Compensation, I’m going to take you through the process I use to bring these different pieces of information together and build a much clearer picture of what is happening within the horse’s body.

Using a real horse as an example, we’ll look at how I mark up and interpret the body, including joint and spinal angles, balance and alignment. We’ll explore what those observations can tell us about areas of dysfunction and the compensations the horse may have developed in response.

We’ll then take that information into motion and look at how what we see in the standing horse relates to the way that horse actually moves.

This isn’t simply about learning to spot whether something looks “right” or “wrong”. It’s about understanding the relationships within the body.

Why might an upright shoulder matter? What can an open or closed pelvic angle tell us? How does that relate to the back and lumbosacral area? What happens when the sternum or spine isn’t correctly aligned? How does balance influence the whole picture? And how do all of those individual observations begin to connect?

By mapping these different elements together, we can start to understand not only what we can see, but why it matters.

And once we understand what is happening, we can begin asking the next question:

What needs to change?

That is where the process of restoring function begins.

Want to take the process further?

Map it. Restore it. Train it.

Mapping Dysfunction & Compensation is the first of three standalone webinars exploring the process I use to understand and influence the way a horse’s body functions.

Mapping Dysfunction & Compensation
Map what is happening within the body and understand the relationships between dysfunction and compensation.

Restoring Function
Take that information and explore what needs to change, what to prioritise and where to begin.

Finding the Correct Form
Understand why the form in which your horse performs an exercise determines what you are actually training.

Each webinar can be booked individually for £15, or you can book all three together for £35, saving £10.

The webinars stand alone, so you don’t need to attend all three. But if you want to follow the complete process from understanding what you see, through deciding what needs to change, to considering how the horse needs to use their body during training, the three webinars are designed to work together.

Map it. Restore it. Train it.
