Christmas Pole Work For Function 13/12/26
Christmas Pole Work for Function
A different approach to pole work this Christmas!
Pole work is often used to improve strength, balance and coordination. But what happens when a horse doesn’t have the functional movement needed to negotiate those poles correctly?
Rather than simply asking horses to complete exercises, we’ll explore what their movement tells us about their posture, balance and ability to organise their bodies.
It’s not about how many poles your horse can negotiate. It’s about understanding what happens when they do.
Each session will be tailored to the individual horse, looking at:
Posture, alignment and functional movement
How the horse organises its body when approaching and negotiating poles
Recognising compensation and restrictions in movement
Improving balance, coordination and communication
Identifying what needs to change before increasing the difficulty of an exercise
For some horses, the most valuable work may happen before they even step over a pole. The aim is to develop better function, not simply complete an exercise.
Groundwork or ridden sessions welcome, depending on the horse’s current ability and needs.
Private session — £50
45 minutes of individual attention for you and your horse.
Festive attire and Christmas decorations are welcome, but entirely optional!
Location: Long Drove Holistic Horse Training
Date: 13/12/26
All sessions must be booked and paid for in advance. Places are limited.
